Someone asked about a Jewish "vidimosti". I remember
that in Tsarist Russia, newspapers were published in each province
called something like Vedemosti Gubernski; so the word might
mean something like "newspaper", "report", or "gazette", and
might be the name of a Russian Jewish newspaper.

The above merely confuses the issue. The similarity of the words is
only superficial; the respective first syllables of "vidimost'"
(appearance) and "vedomost'", note spelling, (gazette) are >from
different roots; the question was about "vidimost'", and the context
was "Jewish appearance".

"Vedomost' Gubern'skaya" would indeed mean Provincial Gazette.

For the record, there is no such word as "vedemost'".
