Release of Standesamt records for non-descendants in 2009 #germany

New legislation has been passed in February 2007 that will allow
relaxed access to German Standesamt data beginning Jaunary 2009.
Marriage and civil union data will be released 80 years after the
event, birth data 110 years, and death data 30 years. The registries
will then be transferred to public archives, and enquires will be
handled by university-trained archivists and not by municipal clerks.
The full text of the law can be found at

I can imagine that there will be an overwhelming number of enquires
coming 2009. I wonder whether enquiring in advance could speed the process.
