Harry Schlanger asks:
I read the name >from a German birth certificate for Alfred SCHLANGER. It
...des Herrn Leopold Schlanger und dessen Gattin Rifka, Ascher /:Alfred:/
If "Gattin" means spouse in German, it's obvious the remainder Rifka,
Asher must be the name. However, now I am not sure if Rifka or Asher is
the family name, or if both are first names. Any suggestions?
Since Asher is a man's first name, Rifka would be the wife's name-Asher
is probably her Father. So it would be Rifka the daughter of Asher.
