I just joined the group. I have been doing genealogy research for about one
month. I consider myself to be definitely a huge-time beginner in doing
*** German Jewish *** Genealogy research. I live in Chautauqua in Upstate
New York, USA. My native language is English. I consider myself pretty
advanced in using a computer. My experience in using the Internet is extensive.
I have identified the names and birth and death dates of all my
grandparents, all of my great grandparents and 11 of my great great
My primary research goals now are to find out the details surrounding the
emigration of the SIMON, MENDELSOHN, GLASSMAN, etc. families to N. America,
where exactly they were living in 'Germany' and 'Prussia', reasons for
leaving and their subsequent lives in the USA.
The family names and towns that I am researching are:
SIMON - family folklore = family moved >from Germany to Louisiana
(Shrevesport's Port vicinity) early 1800's, moved to Erie, Penna just before
the Civil War.
SIMON - according to naturalization records, Prussia to USA to Erie,
Penna. circa 1854, tailors/clothiers
MENDELSOHN - Morowda [sic], Prussia to USA to Erie, mid-1800s. Sarah or Miriam
MENDELSOHN and Samuel or Solomon MENDELSOHN, tailors/clothiers.
