JewishGen Discussion Group #JewishGen Russian names #general

The original manifest of the ship that my paternal uncle and his family
arrived in USA was in a very clear and beautifully hand written script.
With all the flourishes and curlicues in use at that time.

The ship "Petersburg" was owned and operated by "Russian Volunteer Fleet"
and operated out of the Russian port of Libau.

The purser or clerk that wrote up this manifest had to have magnificent
knowledge of English and ability to write such script.

My uncertainty concerns the English spelling of a Russian name spoken in a
Russian-Jewish dialect.

The name as written is "BATSCHKURINSKY"

I know that "T" in Russian is pronounced "S".
That there is no "CH" sound in Russian.

Would any member of this marvelous group care to give their impression of
how to spell this name.
