JewishGen Discussion Group #JewishGen Time-honored Traditions! #general

As we gather with our families in celebration of Passover, we
are reaffirming our links to one another, and our links to the past.
Just imagine, if you will, your grandparents as children searching
for the Afikomen and their delight upon finding it. Now imagine your
own grandchildren engaging in the same time-honored tradition, right
down to the joyful expression on the children's faces.

The simplest Jewish traditions connect us, one generation to the
next. JewishGen is there to help us make these connections, to uncover
our past, and to pay tribute to and inform for the future.

We would like to share with you the story of how one family just
did this very thing.

Joel Ostrowicz, a long-time resident of Brazil, and native of Kielce,
Poland, passed away in September 2001 at the age of 86. Seeking a
unique way to honor his memory, Joel's granddaughter, long interested
and involved in her family research, initiated discussions within
the family about how to honor his memory. She approached JewishGen
regarding the Kielce Yizkor Book and together we came to the conclusion
there is no more fitting and lasting memorial than to pay tribute
to a beloved family member by helping people worldwide learn about
his place of birth.

We invite you to visit
http://www.jewishgen.org/Yizkor/Kielce/Kielce.html and
http://www.jewishgen.org/Yizkor/translations.html. Joel's family
generously provided funding for JewishGen to undertake a complete
translation of the 328-page Kielce Yizkor Book and to insure that it
will be available as a public service at the JewishGen Yizkor Book
Project site. This gift will have great benefit to everyone throughout
the world with family roots in Kielce and an interest in Poland's
Jewish cultural heritage and history.

There are partial translations of 322 Yizkor Books currently online,
and all can be expanded to include the entire book. There are hundreds
more to do if we are to achieve our mission. We cannot do this without
your dedication and support. It was because of the generosity and
creative thinking of the Joel Ostrowicz family that JewishGen is able
to provide yet another venue for you to honor those who you love and
cherish.

Before we gather with our families to commemorate Passover we urge
each and every one of you to visit the newly created Dedication Plaques
address:
http://www.jewishgen.org/jewishgen-erosity/DedicationPlaque.html
Please consider adding your name or that of a loved one and make a
special investment today in the JewishGen Yizkor Book Translation
Project.

Would this not be a fitting way to participate in such a time-honored
tradition? Together, we can preserve our history for future generations!

from all of us at JewishGen, the Board, the Executive Committee and
the hundreds of volunteers who work behind the scenes to make it all
possible, we wish you a happy and joyous Passover. To our Israeli
friends and families, please know our thoughts and prayers are with
you this holiday - with hope for peace and understanding.
