I was recently looking at a complete census page for the 1900 U.S. census.
In the column labeled "occupation" there are numbers and letters
written over the words "no occupation".
They are "na 0 (or o)-6-1". This person stated that naturalization papers
were filed by the date of the census.
Do these numbers mean that he was naturalized Oct. 6, 1901?
I have never known naturalization dates to be noted on a census
after the fact the way they can be on passenger manifests.
In addition, I have been unable so far to find the person's
