During the Depression, landlords would give the first month's rent free in
New York. Thus, many families moved quite frequently to take advantage of a
rent free apartment for a month.

My grandfather opened a beauty parlor in Washington Heights in 1939. It was
called Damor. Eventually, my father and uncle took it over and it lasted
until the early 1970s.
Damor was at 813 W. 187th St. My gps lived at 250 Cabrni, which was pretty
much at 187th.
My gps had friends, the Arditti's and Benveniste's.
My gf moved a lot too, whenever they raised the rent.
