JewishGen Discussion Group #JewishGen RE: Why the name change? #general
Steve Gabai <sgabai@...>
We can drive ourselves crazy trying to figure out names; first and
last - English and Hebrew.
My ggf's (Simon Greenberg) Hebrew name was Shlomo and I have reason
to believe he took the English equivalent - Solomon - in the U.S.
before going with Simon.
On my gf's (Harry) Newark, NJ birth certificate - assuming it's his
- his first name is listed as Ammil. But he was *always* Harry! (my
gf missed his DOB by two days on his WWI draft card).
And in Simon's obit, my gf is listed as Aaron - and he was about 38
at the time!
I think these name changes, discrepancy's and contradictions are just
part of the conspiracy our ancestors undertook to keep us guessing.
