We have two young men - probably first cousins - born in East Galicia and
living in New York in the early 1900's, both named Peretz and both called
Barney. In one case, Barney was his adopted name and in the other his
adopted name was Philip, but he was nicknamed Barney. They did not have
the same surname. It is not clear if they moved in the same circles.
I know perfectly well that there is not necessarily a connection between
original names and adopted names, but this duplicate pairing is so unusual
I can't help considering what may have been behind it.
Aside >from the similarity between the letter "y" and the final tasdi, does
anyone have a suggestion?
Gemar hatima tova and hag sameah.
