JewishGen Discussion Group #JewishGen Re: New JewishGen InfoFile - "Manifest Markings" #general

Dear Genners,

"Thank you" to Warren Blatt and JewishGen for making this InfoFile available,
and also to Marian Smith for creating it. To say that it is a "comprehensive
reference guide".........I don't think I have ever seen anything this
comprehensive online before! It's more than comprehensive.

Now that I have said that........there seems to be something that I either
missed or isn't there. It is this:

In the column "Cause for Detension" on The Record of Aliens Held for Special
Inquiry the notation is LPC which I know is "Likely to be Public Charge",
however on that same line just before the name of the Inspector is a
number----400. Others on the page have the number 320. It is a straight
number----no dots or dashes. It does not look like it could be 'time.'

I have looked through the appropriate section of the InfoFile and find no
explanation of the number.

What does that number mean?

Thank you,

>JewishGen is pleased to announce a major new InfoFile:
"Manifest Markings: A Guide to Interpreting Passenger List
Annotations", written by Marian L. Smith, the Historian of
the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service.
