JewishGen Discussion Group #JewishGen Marriage licences in UK #general

Michael:

The law may have changed recently but, typically, a UK marriage
licence has no 'period of validity'. It specifies the date and
place of the marriage.

When I took my elder daughter to the Register Office to give notice
of her marriage, I enquired whether I could move the chupo indoors in
case of inclement weather. The Registrar insisted that the the
wedding had to take place precisely as stated on the certificate.

Engagements of a year or longer weren't uncommon at that time. I imagine a
marriage license would have been valid for a year. Altogether, I have no
problem with assuming these were the same people.
