Recently, Carol Gurstelle <cgurstelle@...> offered information to
researching "The First 62 Years of the Brooklyn Eagle Newspaper located at http://eagle.brooklynpubliclibrary.org . Of most interest in visiting this site is the fact that by typing in "Passenger Lists" I received 248 hits. In exploring further, you do receive lists of passengers arriving and departing the ports of New York. So many of you might be interested in this option as it includes lists for Castle Garden and the Barge office (remember Ellis Island became a location for arrivals and departures in NY in 1892). As examples, "Light Passenger Lists" was an article >from March 1892 discussing departures and included numerous names of those departing on the Umbria, Fulda, Veendam, Elbe (no passengers). Another article; "Gone for the Summer - Crowds Flocking to Europe on Ocean Steamers" >from June 1889 lists dozens and dozens of names of those leaving on vacation. Of note, I also had no problems using the site with Netscape. It was easy to use, and I found myself interested in articles that had nothing to do with my research. It was by far better than other online newspaper sites to use and navigate. Thanks for posting the link! Good Luck!
