As the IAJGS Conference looms ever closer, I am hoping
that some of our readers >from the DC area will be able
to help me locate some descendants of my husband's
My husband's gggf & gggm were Shmuel Blau & Ruchel
[maiden name unknown]. They were born about 1862,
lived somewhere in the Austrian Empire and died in
Europe about 1938-1942. Shmuel had held some sort of
postmaster position. His death was [or their deaths
were] reported in one of the New York Yiddish daily
They had at least the following 6 children who
emigrated to the US:
Yitzak b. abt. 1886 d. unknown
Gussie [Gittel] b. 1889 d. Jul 1971 Bronx
Sara b. 1890 d. Nov 1977 D.C.
Hilda b. 1892 d. Mar 1989 Albany, CA
Pauline b. abt. 1900 d. unknown
Isabelle b. 1902 d. May 1973 Bev Hills
Yitzak Blau and Gussie [married name GLASSER] lived in
NYC. Sara, Hilda, Pauline and Isabelle lived in the
DC area for 35-50 years.
Sara married Leon GERSTENFELD, b. Apr 1890 d. Feb
1981. They had two daughters, Frances and Ann.
Hilda married XXXXX SPENCER. They had one daughter,
Frances b. 1932.
Pauline's husband is not remembered but she had a
Isabelle married Max GOTTLIEB, b. Nov 1896 d. Jan
1986. We do not know if they had any children.
