Dear Genners, Thank you !

Way back in November 2007 someone posted a link to the Cologne Jewish
Cemetery, and mentioned that the administrator was very helpful. I have
been searching for details about my great-great-grandmother Gudula CAHN
(after whom my grandmother was named) for many years. I have found her
to be quite alusive.

She was, the second of three wives of my great-great-grandfather.
Although her name appeared on her children's birth records and I
guessed she died before my grandmother was born in 1926 I could find
no other record of her.

That is, until I contacted the Cologne cemetery. The wonderful
administrator went out in the snow and gathered photos of all the
possible candidates and sent them to me ... and there she was Julie CAHN
nee WOLF died 1892, 2 years before the 3rd marriage
of her husband, 2 years after the birth of her last child and under a
Germanic name which a more distant relative had thought might be
Julianne - written on the Yad Vashem record for her son.

With my new photo and enthusiasm I emailed the archive in Bruhl (one of
two local archives in Koln I have a developed a love/hate relationahip
with in the last 6 years) and perhaps due to the change in law mentioned
on this list recently I got some fantastic help.

Today I received the first marriage certificate of my
great-great-grandfather Herman CAHN to Caroline SALOMON in 1876, the
birth certificate of my great-grandfather's sister Emma CAHN, the death
certificates of two of his sisters who died in infancy, and the death
certificate of Gudula CAHN ne. WOLF born in approximately 1851 in
Arwheiler - a town which was apparently home to 28 Jews in 1849
according to the Jewish virtual library.

The email and attachment to the Arhweiler archive are winging their way
over the internet as we speak .....

I have been searching for this info for 6 years - the lesson is don't
give up !!! Thanks all as always,
