When my uncle died, we faced the same question. His widow remembered that
they made out wills many years before-for a lawyer she worked for. What our
lawyer did was advertise in the local law journal for the whereabouts of the
records of the firm of X, Y, and Z. He said the records are transfered to
another law firm if a law firm closes-or if the firm changes name, it would
recognize the 'old name'.
He got no answer, however, and we ended up with an administration rather
than execution of the will.
"I found the attorney circa 1947-49
who handled probate for my family
the attorney is now deceased
he was in practice with other attorneys
how would I go about finding where those records might
be (if they haven't been destroyed)?"
