JewishGen Discussion Group #JewishGen RE: A City That Sounds like Feline Or Feiline, Russia #general

Ida & Joseph Schwarcz <idayosef@...>

Very often Th and F seem to be exchangeable in Russian, e.g. Feodor instead
of Theodor. Could the place be Tallin in Esthonia and Lapland was written
instead/ Just a guess.

<< I'm having difficulty determining the correct name for a town or city that
might have been in Ukraine or Russia. On The Ellis Island Data Base a Joseph
RUDICK arriving in New York City 1911 Lists his residence as Dublin Ireland &
his city of birth as Feline or Feiline, Russia. His son Isaac RUDICK arriving
earlier that year also lists Dublin Ireland as residence but then write for
city of birth Feline Lepland Russia. Is this an illegible spelling for
annother town or some place that might have a new name? I can't find it on
any maps. Any suggestions welcome. TIA
