JewishGen Discussion Group #JewishGen Re: Galicia/Vohlyn/Podolia #general

In a book about our family roots it is refered that they were from
"Galicia". On the other hand I have received replies to my previous
messages that the towns where my ancestors came from-Skalat,
Starokonstantine, Ostrog-were in Podolia or Vohlyn and not in Galicia.
Some 250-300 years ago they were also rabbis in Kremenetz.

Were Podolia and/or Vohlyn ever part of Galicia or did the family consider
themselves as Galicianerim, because of their strong Chassidic
indentification?

Hi,

The best way to visualize where ]Russian Empire] Vohlyn and Podolia have
been oriented with regards to [Austrian] Galicia is to examine this end of
the 19th century British map.
