I would suggest a number of avenues:

1) Contact The Jewish Refugees Committee, World Jewish Relief,
The Forum, 74/80 Camden Street, London NW1 0EG
Telephone +44 (0) 20 7691 1781. Fax +44 (0) 20 7691 1780
Email WJR1@wjr.org.uk

If the boys changed the surname (and you are probably right
that they did), the Committee will probably know because they
would have dealt with the brothers over German compensation claims.
The Committee can play their cards very close to their chest,
but persevere with them. I learnt the married name of mother's
second cousin (whom my mother didn't know in Germany) >from them and
the city in which she was last known to have lived. >from that,
I discovered her in the BT telephone directory (www.bt.com)
and reunited her also with her cousin in the USA. She thought
all her family had died.

2) If they did change their name in the UK, the change of
name may have appeared in the London Gazette. You could try
a search there.
http://www.gazettes-online.co.uk/archiveSearch.asp?WebType=0

3) You could try writing to the Jewish Chronicle, www.thejc.com,
the Jewish news, www.totallyjewish.com and the Jewish Telegraph,
www.jewishtelegraph.co.uk with the story and they may take it up.

4) You could also put a search advertisement in Aufbau
www.aufbauonline.com

5) I think either the Daily Mail Saturday edition or the
Mail on Sunday www.dailymail.com, national UK newspapers,
has a search column which picks one story to do a week.
You could try contacting them (it may be better to phone rather
than email because of the volume of emails a national newspaper
gets per day).

6) As you know the young man was a journalist in New York and the
approximate dates, you could try contacting journalist organizations
and ask them to put out an appeal.

Hope this helps.

Dear Genners,
I posted in the past an enquiry about 2 of my late
mother's remote relatives the brothers Rolf and Kurt
Max Koenigsbuch born in 1929 and 1931 respectively in
Hamburg. They were on the Kindertransport and survived
the war in Birmingham. They never participated in the
Kindertransport reunions and we lost their traces
though they are most probably still active somewhere.
Last week I discovered their 95 years old first cousin
Erna Teichteil-Koenigsbuch in Johannesburg through a
wonderful Genners' participation.
On Monday I got an email >from a remote relative of
them who lives in Buenos Aires which reported to me
that between 1969-1970 she lived in New York and that
her father put an ad in a local newspaper looking for
Koenigsbuchs. She wrote to me the following:"and a big
surprise came ,a young man living a short time in N.Y.
he was a journalist and I remember he said he got a
brother in England. This must be Kurt or Rolf.We never
more got in touch with them".
I checked in Birmingham and Manchester and through
most of the normal places and I believe that only one
of our genner brethern ,through personal knowledge,
may put me on track again. I am quite convinced that
they changed their name. There are 2 Kurt Koenigs
registered in NY State white pages. One has a recording
the second is a fax. There are no Koenigsbuchs in all
of the USA(only my cousins Kingsbook in California).
Trusting You
