How typical of our ancestors. They estimated when they were born, when they
emigrated, and anything else that someone asked them-and in the early days
nobody checked because it didn't make a lot of difference.

The Soo is Sault St Marie-that is easy. Upper Michigan adjacent to Canada.
The port of arrival was probably there, as Chicago is not on the border. He
may have taken a train >from Canada to Chicago, but the border was in
Michigan.

He may also have arrived in New York on his way to Canada. Since he was out
of the US for that time period in Canada, it would not count towards US
naturalization, only continuous residence after arriving back in the US
would-ie after arriving at the Soo.

CF, is a Canadian railroad system, I think, Canada Freight as I recall,
although it wasn't only freight.

And finally Halifax and Montreal-if nobody checked when he actually arrived
in the US (early spring, 1909), they really didn't care if he went to
Halifax or Montreal first in Canada. He probably moved around and was in
both cities at some early point and didn't remember 20 years later.
