London's Portuguese-Jewish Community -
I am looking for my 3rd great grand-mother's father. Sadly we know nothing
of his origins.
His name was Isaac Heineman PHINEAS (b/circa 1775/80 - death 1855/
Three-Rivers, Quebec, CA). He arrived alone in Quebec at the age of 18 or
20, in about 1798. He quickly became a merchant in Three-Rivers. He soon
married Hannah Cook and they had 6 children. No other Phineas family member
is known to have immigrated at this time.
Family lore has it that Isaac was born in the Portuguese-Jewish section of
London, England. Isaac was well educated and he could read and write English
fluently. Locating Passenger Records is quite difficult before 1865, in
