SCHEARER is probably a spelling adopted in an English-speaking country. The e-a combination would be unusual in a German-speaking environment. That said, the name, however spelled, has no particular connections to Judaism, but was certainly used by Jews. It's German in origin, like so many other names used by Jews, and was definitely used by Gentiles too.
