Two points: Alex, first, tell us just a little more about your family
(approx years of birth, emigration etc), what you have done (ie: census,
ellis island, jewishgen archives, foreign archives you've written to, etc)

Next point: Why not use Jewishgen's resources?? Its the greatest collection
of genealogy databases and its designed for us! Many of us have been there
before and we've documented what we've found........

1. Register surnames and towns at JewishGen Family Finder (JGFF)
<http://www.jewishgen.org/jgff/> and search the existing listings (always
use the SOUNDEX). Email those researchers who might be >from the same family.
Once you register here, you can go onto the Family Tree of the Jewish People
(FTJP) and look thru thousands of individual entries.
2. Read the JewishGen FAQ written and updated frequently by Warren Blatt
<http://www.jewishgen.org/infofiles/faq.html>. If you are researching
Eastern Europe, read the eastern european faq too.
3. Look at the JewishGen Infofiles and Databases for articles of interest.
These are wonderful genealogical files are catalogued by subject and country

4. use the general search facilities at
http://www.jewishgen.org/JewishGen/Search.htm and prior messages
on this bulletin board at
(special interest group archives)
5. is there a shtetlinks web page for your town? It would give you history
and connect you with other researchers.
Another suggestion......when I research a town, I realize that
neighboring towns contained relatives.....so I get the latitude/longitude
of my town and another researcher claims his people are >from
some other town I dont recognize,...........I go into the
shtetl seeker on jewishgen........put in the coordinates of
my town.......then the other researchers town name......
and shtetl seeker will automatically compute the distance between
the two towns. This helps to know if I should pursue the
