I have replied privately to this query but thought the following site might
be useful to anyone else researching relatives who served in the Australian
forces in any war. Individual service records can be digitalised (you can
request via email on the site) and viewed via the net. Many have already
been processed and can be viewed immediately. There is usually lots of
information about next of kin, details of service, far more detailed records
for those who were wounded or killed in action.
The Australian Archives site is

I wonder if anyone has these names on their family trees. I should like to
establish that they were Jews. Two brothers, ALfred MARKS and Lionel MARKS,
were killed in action within three days of each other (on 25 and 28 April 1915)
at the start of the ill-fated Gallipoli campaign, in the First Battle of Krithia.
Nether body was recovered so there are no gravestones and they are instead
commemorated on memorials. Alfred served in the Border Regiment and Lionel was in
the Australian Imperial Force.

Their father was Louis Joseph MARKS of 88 Fenchurch Street, London, EC, and
later of 11 Oxford Circus, Noting HIll, London (but I cannot locate that street.)

I should be very glad to have any information about them or their family.
