JewishGen Discussion Group #JewishGen Research in Montreal, Canada #general

Recently there have been a number of posts on the subject of research in Quebec
City and Montreal.

I would direct those interested to the JGS of Montreal home page, which has
extensive & helpful information, links and historical date:

Particularly valuable in this search, and on the site, are the following:

Jewish vital records of Montreal/Quebec, 1841 - 1942
Canadian Naturalization Records - 1914-1932

Scroll down the page and check out the links, as well.

Good luck with your research.

PS: Sainte-Catherine Street is a long and important street in downtown Montreal,
running >from west to east. The Montreal Jewish community was concentrated in the
'Plateau' area of the city (mainly in the Park Avenue - St-Laurent "The Main" St.
area, near Mount Royal Avenue) in the early 20th century. There were other,
smaller groups of Jews living elsewhere in the city at that time, as well. As in
other North American cities, the community began its spread uptown and later to
the suburbs.
