PS: Sainte-Catherine Street is a long and important street in downtown Montreal,
running >from west to east. The Montreal Jewish community was concentrated in the
'Plateau' area of the city (mainly in the Park Avenue - St-Laurent "The Main" St.
area, near Mount Royal Avenue) in the early 20th century. There were other,
smaller groups of Jews living elsewhere in the city at that time, as well. As in
other North American cities, the community began its spread uptown and later to
the suburbs.
