The first rule I learned when beginning the genealogical research of my ancestors
was:
"Genealogy without documentation is mythology."
One should never "assume", "guess", etc. - or we would all end up with King David,
the Vilna Gaon and a family tree too huge to display!

I can't caution you enough about the careful use of sources in your genealogical
research. Often an assumption will be contradicted by other evidence and near
relatives are soon reduced merely to fellow lundsmen of an
undetermined relationship.
