A Curator Looks at Genealogy Two important local Jewish groups share their mutual interests. presented by Anne LeVant Prahl Anne LeVant Prahl is the collections curator at the Oregon Jewish Museum where she has been involved since 1993. She holds a Masters Degree in Museum Studies >from the University of Texas, Austin and an undergraduate degree in Linguistic Anthropology >from Oberlin College. She has worked with small museum collections across the country. Ms. Prahl received her archival training with the National Park Service’s Museum Branch in Boston where she processed the holdings of Americans who lived in New England >from 1650 to 1950. At the Oregon Jewish Museum, Ms. Prahl manages the archival and material culture collections of the museum, ensuring that they are available to researchers. She also oversees the Oral History Project that documents the lives of Oregonians in their own words. Ms. Prahl will speak on the connections between museums’ material culture collections and genealogical research. Material culture has long been overlooked by genealogists as a source rich in information on family members. She will discuss how curators can be of use to researchers and how researchers can help to fill in the gaps in museum collection documentation. This event is *free* to JGSO members.
