JewishGen Discussion Group #JewishGen Relatives stopped responding!!! #general

I am becoming so frustrated, and am wondering whether others have had the
same experience. I made a contact on my family, albeit a distant
relative, and was so excited that we might be able to put some of the
pieces of my grandfather's family together, and actually locate living
relatives. After two email exchanges, he stopped responding, and
although I made several attempts to reconnect, my emails were ignored.

Several weeks ago, I made another contact, thanks to a few of you who
were kind enough to make phone calls for me in Israel, and although
there seemed to be genuine excitement on the other end on behalf of a
granddaughter of a man who is also a distant relative of my
grandfather's family, that has fizzled also.

Both of these people firmly believed that there were no survivors, and I
told them both that there were *definitely* survivors, and I have been
trying to find them. What should have been excitement and interest have
turned into total disappearing acts. I don't think I have ever been as
confused or road blocked, even when I have hit dead ends in my research!

Have any of you had the same experience, and if so, how do you deal with
it? At what point do you just throw your hands up in the air and accept
the fact that even though there is information you know is out there,
and which would help immensely in reconstructing family trees, that you
just aren't going to receive it, and therefore may never succeed in
tracking down lost relatives???? Leslie Weinberg
