Is there any way in which one can find a person by only knowing their maiden
name?

On an Ellis Island record I have the woman's name and to whom she was going
in Philadelphia in 1921. It is thought she married a Mr X and had a daughter
called X - yet I cannot fathom a way to find details about her as it is
believed she and her husband moved to Chicago.

I have tried soundex of the supposedly married name but no success, either
in the SSDI and census'.

All ideas most welcome.
