JewishGen Discussion Group #JewishGen Re: Naturalization for Father and his family #general

Hi,

My paternal grandfather was naturalized in July 1920. His wife, my
grandmother and 3 children were still living in Poland. They hopped
on the first boat out, entering the US in September. They were listed
on his petition and naturalization certificate, and noted on the
ship's manifest as US citizens.

To the best of my knowledge, the law allowing wives and children to
get citizenship automatically with the husband/father was changed in
1922.

Hi All -

If I understand it properly, when a father is naturalized, his family is
included. If, however the father comes over before his family, and waits
the required 7 years then becomes naturalized, his family can be included
even though they may have only been here for 5 years. Is that true? And
would there only be naturalization documents for the father, and not his
family?
Thanks,
