An alternative name for Blaszki (a Polish town located on the road between
Kalisz and Sieradz) has come down in our family records as "Schwarzstadt".
The town had a large Jewish population >from the end of the 18th cent.until
WWII. There were also a good number of German Lutherans in this area, such
as the Gribnaus, my maternal great grandparents. They seen to have married
into a Jewish (converted to Catholicism) family named Janowski.
In any case, I noticed that Schwarzstadt is not given as an alternative name
for Blaszki on your web site. Perhaps the town was known by that name in
some Jewish family traditions, as well.
