I may be misunderstanding exactly what Lisa refers to here. There are
many ISPs (mine included) which use SORBs and SpamCop lists to
determine which ISP's messages they will block. The unfortunate thing
is that when Cogeco does this I, as the receiver of email, have no
idea that email is bouncing back to the sender until one of these
senders manages to contact me some other way.

So far I don't believe that this has occurred with the JewishGen email
list or any of the SIG lists to which I subscribe, but this doesn't
guarantee that it won't happen in the future. No amount of talking or
other tactics will convince Cogeco to deal with the spam problem in
some other way. I'm sure that others face similar problems with their
ISPs. I can only hope that JewishGen email stays unaffected.
Only hoping is not enough, I think.

Your ISP is for connecting you to the internet.
That you have to use their emailsystem as yours is not true.

If you do not like their way of doing things, and you cannot change their
minds, choose another email provider. Gmail, among many others, comes to
mind, if you do not want to pay for it.
