Jewish genealogists have access to few primary genealogical sources. Where
they do exist, Mohel Books - or circumcision registries - provide a valuable
window into the fabric of Jewish society in times past.
Unfortunately, few Mohel Books have survived the Holocaust, and even fewer
are publicly available. Obviously, they only list male children.
For the rural community of Huerben in Bavarian Swabia, Germany, the
transcript of a Mohel Book covering the period >from 1800 to 1837 is
available at the Leo Baeck Institute Archives in New York.
Ralph Bloch will describe what he found, while he worked his way through

The Jewish Genealogical Society - Hamilton & Area (JGS - H&A) is a
non-profit organization that is run by members for members. Membership in
JGS - H&A is open to all regardless of religious affiliation or level of
experience. We have members who are just beginning their journeys as well as
some who are published genealogists. Admission is free for Members;
non-members pay $5 to help defray costs and which will be applied to the JGS
Membership Fee when joining in the same membership year.
