We have been informed of a new procedure for visitors to
Jewish cemeteries in Poland. It is in place for only a few
of them, but it is advised to phone or fax to be sure of access.
In particular, anyone visiting Lezajsk cemetery in Galicia (south of
Lublin about 2 hours), and maybe other places in Poland, should be
aware that a new procedure is being instituted requiring visitors to
procure a key (for a small fee to help cover the cost of
maintenance) >from the responsible Jewish authority prior to going to
visit these sites so as not to be surprised and upset if the gate is
locked! Apologies to those inconvenienced up to now!
Please contact Ms. Monika Krawczyk at the Foundation for the
Preservation of Jewish Heritage in Poland for details.
