JewishGen Discussion Group #JewishGen Translation of Hebrew Writing on Headstone (ViewMate 8887 & 8888) #general
Paul A. Auerbach
Genners,
I've recently posted on ViewMate a couple of photographs of the headstone of my second great-grandmother, Minnie Pelican: http://data.jewishgen.org/ViewMate/ALL/viewmateview.asp?key=8887 http://data.jewishgen.org/ViewMate/ALL/viewmateview.asp?key=8888 As you can see, the stone is in very poor shape. The only Hebrew I can clearly make out is "Here Lies" at the top of the stone and the abbreviation for "May Her Soul Be Bound Up in the Bonds of Eternal Life." I'm hoping someone can translate at least some of the remaining Hebrew for me. Just in case, it's helpful, here's what the English portion of the stone says: "In Memory of Minnie, Beloved Wife of Alexander Pelican, Who Died 23rd July 1897, Aged 59." July 23, 1897 converts to 23 Tamuz 5657 in the Jewish calendar. Also, the Hebrew name of Minnie's husband was Yekutiel. Please reply directly to me at PAuerbach@yahoo.com. Thanks very much for your help.
