A death certificate for my relative filled out by his daughter in 1963 lists
the birthplace of the deceased man's father as "Jonial-Lithuania". The
father was born around 1840 and his name was Sholom Shachna Millner aka Sam.
He died before emigrating. His wife was Etta Kaplan Millner who did
immigrate to St. Louis, MO. The only name for Sholom's place of birth that
came up using the JGen data base was Zeimelis, Lithuania. Does the
Lithuanian town of Zeimelis sound likely as the town "Joniel", considering
the change in accent, and translation issues?
