Someone whose surname is, for example, AZEVEDO, is not necessarily a Jewish
converso.

This is where DNA testing can be very helpful. If an AZEVEDO male has his Y-DNA
tested and most of his matches are Jews, then he is highly likely to have Sephardic
ancestry. I recommend the testing company Family Tree DNA because they have the
largest Jewish DNA database of any of the companies. If the AZEVEDO male in
question has Sephardic ancestry, he will be most likely to find a match in the
FTDNA database.
