Significance of my mtDNA results #germany

Tom Krakauer

I recently did a DNA analysis on FamilyTreeDna. My Autosomal results and my
Y Chromosome results make perfect sense to me, but I am totally confused
about the significance of the mtDNA results.
My family is >from Hannover, Germany, and I can trace my maternal ancestry in
Germany for 6 generations. Yet the matches on the mtDNA are overwhelmingly
from Eastern Europe.
Does this merely reflect that in the 6 generations the family maintained
their Jewish integrity and that the haplogroup is Askenazi and which
includes Eastern European Jews rather than a tracing of the maternal line.
If someone on GerSig has written about this issue, I would be glad to learn
about that.
