The best way for you to learn about the Jewish given name,is the very
good book (in my opinion) >from Alexander Beider:
Dictionary of Askenazic Given Names, the origins, structure, pronunciation
and migration,
By Avotaynu inc, Bergenfield,New Jersy 2001.
This book give you a lot of answers for the questions that you ask.
I am sure that you can find it in every good Library in you town.
