My apologies if this has been covered before.
My greatgreatgrandmother and three of her children appear on a Hamburg
passenger manifest departing Hamburg on the SS Westphalia on December 19
1886. They traveled through Le Havre and, according to records I have
seen, they arrived at Castle Garden in New York City on January 3 1887.
The same greatgreatgrandmother and five of her children (some of the
same >from before) also appear on a Hamburg passenger manifest departing
Hamburg on the SS Rhaetia on May 9 1887. The Rhaetia arrived in New York a
short time later. The names of my gggm and her children do not appear in
the arrival manifest at Castle Garden.
Is it possible that they never took the May 1887 trip, but rather,
had paid for the tickets and appear on the manifest?
Any other thoughts?
