I am pleased to announce that photographs and information written on the 418
tombstones >from the Portuguese Israelite (Sephardic) section of Waldheim Cemetery,
located west of Chicago, have now appeared on JOWBR. Names that commonly appear
here include VARON, AZUS, AMADO, MOSES, HARAVON, VENTURA, LEVY, LEVIN, KAMHI,
MESHULAM (with various spellings), ALFASSA, BEHAR, CAPSUTO, CASSUTO, ARONESTI,
SKENAZY, CALDERON, HAZAN, PIZANTE, ALHALEL, LIGIER, COHEN and many others. This
modest contribution should be of interest to those researching these Chicago
families as well as of general interest to those researching Sephardic names and
tombstones in the United States. My thanks to Nolan Altman and his JOWBR team of
