Dear GerSIG members

A Tuesday recap: Two talks were delivered today on behalf of Gerhard
Buck, who was unwell and unable to join us at conference, one by Roger
Lustig, and one by Karen Franklin. Gerhard-- on behalf of all of us,
thank you for your talks and for all the work you put into them. We
all missed you, and hope you will soon be well again. For those of
you reading this who don't know Gerhard, he is a previous winner of
the Obermayer German Jewish History Award, see

Our day has finally arrived. Wednesday July 26 is GerSIG day!

Our day will start early (at 7am) - with Breakfast Q&A with the German
Research Experts. This is a paid for session where attendees are
asked to bring their research questions with them. Alex, Roger and I
will do our best to answer. Like last year, we will in due course
post a summary of the questions on my blog - same address as above.

Next up is our invited guest speaker Dr Bettina Joergens >from the
State Archives of North-Rhine-Westphalia, who will give the first of
her two presentations "How to Find Ancestors in German Archives- and
Why?" This will - also be available over IAJGS Live!

Then GerSIG Director Roger Lustig will present The Gatermann and RSA
Films: A Tragic Treasure. This will also be live!

After this - the GerSIG Business Meeting - I wrote about this in
detail a couple of days ago. Please do try to attend if you can. We
will post a meeting summary hopefully over the next few days, after
the conference.

This will be followed by the GerSIG luncheon - where Bettina will give
her second talk. She will go deeper into the history of archival
documents and holdings concerning the Jewish population and discuss
the reasons and backgrounds of the existence of records, knowledge and
narrations of Jewish family's histories.

The last GerSIG interest talk of the day is mid afternoon- when Leo
Baeck Institute (NY) archivist Michael Simonson will speak about
Ensuring Against Forgetting: the Arthur Obermayer Awards of 2017. He
will be joined in his presentation by Rolf Schmitt >from Bruchsal who
won the award this year - see:
