JewishGen Discussion Group #JewishGen Looking for descendants of Ida (Alta) BARBELL and Solomon SEROTA #general

David Ellis

I have been tracing the family tree of my g-gm Eva SIROTA, who was born in
Butrimonys, Lithuania in 1852, married Abrahm ELLIS in 1871, came to New
York in 1888 and died in 1928. I believe I have charted all of their
descendants, about 270 including living and deceased.

A Revision History (census) record >from 1858 shows the following family
group:
Yaker SIROTA, b. 1806, father: Abram (my g-g-grandfather)
Sorka, b. 1810, Yaker's wife (my g-g-grandmother?)
-Rivka, b. 1841, daughter;
-Libka, b. 1846, daughter;
-Movsha, b. 1849, son;
-Chava, b. 1852, daughter (my g-grandmother);
-Chana, b. 1854, daughter;

I was unable to trace any of my g-gm's siblings, finding no apparent matches
in the Ellis Island database, US census records and the Yad Vashem database.
Yesterday, however, I was told that there is a family tree on ancestry.com
tracing back to the youngest sibling, Chava. Here is the outline:

Chane SIROTA, b. 1854, lived in Philadelphia
m. Israel Mendel SEROTA, b. 1850 (he might have been a cousin of hers)
-Rose
-Solomon, b. 1876, d. 1964
m. Ida (Alta) BARBELL, b. 1878, d. 1969
-Israel, b. 1897, d. 1983
m. Yetta
-Doris, b. 1926
-Benjamin, b. 1900, d. 1972
m. Kathryn EWART, d. 1936
m. Jean STAD
-one son, one daughter, living, unidentified
-Eva, b. 1901, d. 1993
m. Morris BECK
-Deloras, b. 1925
m. Sidney SCHLANGER
-another daughter, living, unidentified
m. ? ESSL
-Samuel, b. 1909, d. 1976
m. Helen HERSKOWITZ
-two sons, living, unidentified
-Julius, b. 1914, d. 2002
m. Helen

I would be looking for anybody who would recognize members of this tree.
The family lived mostly in Philadelphia. At the present time, there are
dozens of people in Philadelphia (and many more in surrounding towns) with
the surname SEROTA.
