JewishGen Discussion Group #JewishGen re: Help with Lithuanian town name #general

"...Rai? Rei? Does anyone have a clue what this town could be?.."

Your ancestors may have played a joke on you. The words 'rai' means
'paradise' in Russian. Most likely, it was the town of Druskieniki (Polish)
which is called Druskininkai (Lithuanian) today. It was popular among the
Jews; there were even a few so called sanatoriums there, owned by Jewish
doctors. No beach, but beautiful pine forests.
