JewishGen Discussion Group #JewishGen JewishGen courtesy -- proper identification of the language of documents #general
Perhaps this is a side issue, but it is one that comes up. Much
information about and >from our ancestors is in three languages;
Russian (Cyrillic), Polish (Latin)and Hebrew/Yiddish. Each with its
own distinct alphabet. Yiddish and Hebrew use the same alphabet. It
is easy to look up each to familiarize ourselves with the formation of
the letters in order to identify which is which, not necessarily to be
able to understand it. Google has much help.
