I am researching my mother's family (Cohenim) which had a tradition of
Torah scribes going back several generations. I'd love to hear from
others who have scribes in their family trees. I know there is a
Biblical reference (First Chronicles) to "families of scribes" and I'm
wondering if this was an art passed down in families. Was it typical
(or necessary) for a scribe to be a Cohen? If anyone knows of books
or articles that deal specifically with the tradition of the scribe in
Jewish religion, family history, and culture, I'd be grateful to hear
