JewishGen Discussion Group #JewishGen Re: Question about filed US Naturalization papers #general

The naturalization rules changed in 1921 or 22. After this each adult
needed to file for naturalization. The marriage rule only applied to
women prior to this. In fact, an American woman marrying a non-citizen
lost her citizenship.

I wondered the same thing. My father came to the US in 1946, married my
mom in 1948 -- did that automatically make him a citizen immediately, rather
than filing papers and waiting a specified period of time. Were people who
became citizens through marriage eligible for drafting through the selective
service system?

I could be wrong, but I believe that when she married an American citizen
she automatically became a citizen and that there would be no papers filed
with respect to that.
