Please join us at the next meeting of the Orange County (California)
JGS, when Joel Weintraub will present "Here Comes The 1940 Census!"
Date: Sunday, January 22
Time: 1:00 -- 2:30 p.m.
Place: Temple Bat Yahm, 1011 Camelback St., Newport Beach

There's a vast amount of information about our families contained in
the 1940 United States census, which has been closed to the public for
72 years as required by law. Genealogists >from beginners to
professionals have been eagerly anticipating the opportunity to find
out what it contains, and it will finally become available on April 1.
Take advantage of this rare opportunity to learn >from nationally-known
expert and OCJGS member Joel Weintraub. Joel will explain what
information we need to have before searching the census and teach us
the skills needed to mine this treasure trove of data.

Joel is a past National Archives and Records Administration volunteer
and an emeritus Biology Professor at California State University,
Fullerton. He started transcribing streets within census districts in
2001 to help researchers search the 1930 census (released in 2002).
He was joined in the venture by David Kehs and Stephen Morse in 2002,
and together they have produced a number of online census searching
utilities for both the federal and the New York State censuses on the
Morse One-Step website. Joel has been working on finder aids for the
1940 census since 2005 and has given talks on that census since in 2006.

There is no charge to attend, but please RSVP to Sandy Bursten --
