In the Chabad movement, it is popular to name a child after one of the
previous Chabad leaders. Over the centuries there have been literally
thousands of Schneor Zalma's, almost all of them rabbis, named after the
illustrious Rebbe.

My great grandfather Benjamin ESCHEN was born in Vaslui, Romania, July 15,
1858. According to his wife on the "NY Standard Certificate of Death" his
father's name was Samuel ESCHEN. On his headstone (in NY) it says: "Here
lies Mr.Ben - Tzion, son of Reb Schneor Zalman. Passed away 12 Adar 5691
(March 1, 1931).
I was told that Schneor Zalman was the name of the Rabbi who founded the
Chabad Movement. Could someone please explain how he could be the "son of
someone" who was born in the mid 1750's?
