In the 1940 Ancestry census there are many missing names. However they may
not be missing just not in the index.
I could not find my future father-in-law but remembered that his married
daughter lived with the family. I put in her husbands name in the search and
found that the head of house was the father-in-law. Living with him and his
wife was the married daughter, husband and 2 children. I then tried my
father-in-laws brother and again a zero. He had a son who married later and
I put the sons name in search and sure enough he was living at home with his
parents and a few siblings. So the story is that just because a name is not
indexed does not mean they are not there.
